About Us
Who Are We?
The Stars Come Out, Inc. (TSCOI) is a 501 (c3) organization started in 2008 to raise funds for charities/non-profits in the greater Little Rock area. Annually, we sponsor the Celebrity Dance Showcase “Let’s Dance to Health”, a major fund-raising initiative, which features central Arkansas community leaders competing through dance to raise money to benefit charity/ non-profit organizations that are focused on improving the quality of life for others.
How We Got Started:
After retirement the founders, Dr. Donald Henderson and Carlette Henderson, decided that they wanted to continue to give back to the community. After watching Dancing with the Stars, they thought that it would be very innovative and creative to model a fundraiser after the television show. Not only would it be a fun way to get people involved in raising monies for a charity/ non-profit; but that they could also introduce the community to the health benefits of ballroom dancing.
They got more of an overwhelming response than expected from persons interested in dancing and dance studios willing to teach ballroom dancing. After three years of sponsoring the TSCOI annual Celebrity Dance Showcase “Let’s Dance to Health”, the event has grown each year.
What is the Mission for The Stars Come Out, Inc.?
The mission is to inspire people of central Arkansas to make a difference in the lives of others through volunteer commitment and financial generosity.
What is the Vision for The Stars Come Out, Inc.?
Today’s vision is to continue to raise funds for charities/non-profits in the central Arkansas area that do not have the support of a national fundraising umbrella in addition to creating a platform to educate and increase community awareness about the health benefits of dancing.
What are some of the accomplishments of The Stars Come Out, Inc ?
Over a dozen local charities/non-profits have benefited from our fundraising. Some of the beneficiaries were: senior citizen centers in Jacksonville, Little Rock, and Maumelle; Arkansas Baptist College, Neighbors Helping Neighbors, Inc., The Christian Ministerial Alliance- L. C. and Daisy Bates Home, Women and Children First, American Cancer Society, and the Make a Wish Foundation.
The Governor proclaimed April 30, 2011 “Let’s Dance to Health Day” to encourage citizens across the State to recognize the importance of dance and its positive impact on the health of our citizens.
